It's an unprecedented event for both stations, and more info is forthcoming on our broadcast schedule. See more info about the festival at www.alchemyatzahar.com.

UPCOMING SPECIALS ON WFMU:

Mice Parade
Thursday, March 21st, Midnight - 3am
on 100% Whatever with Mary Wing

Mice Parade originally began as the solo project of Adam Pierce, who has played in Swirlies, The Dylan Group, HiM, Philistines Jr., and Múm. Over the years, Adam has sought different musicians to expand his musical vision across a variety of genres, from indie-rock, electronica and shoe-gaze, to African and Eastern-influenced rhythms. Yet as ever, Mice Parade’s sound is essentially modern, informed by an esoteric palette, retaining a familiar acoustic presence via an uncliched take on folk/world influences. The group blends live instrumentation, layers of overdubs, and intricate percussion into a distinctive, playful sound. Their tenth album, “Candela” was released in January, and AllMusic praised it as presenting Adam’s “eclectic, often globe-trotting influences in some of his most accessible songs yet.” Tune in to hear them play live on Mary Wing’s show on Thursday morning, beginning at 1 am!

Plates of Cake
Friday, March 22nd, 9am - Noon
on The Long Rally with Scott McDowell

Brooklyn band Plates of Cake stops by to punch WFMU in the face with their wise old songs and swirling stately rock, mining the wintry rock/punk mix (Lou Reed, The Soft Boys, Television). Their new album "Teenage Evil" is full of poise (and a Soft Boys cover), out March 26th on the Uninhabitable Mansions label.

M.A.K.U Sound System
Saturday, March 23rd, 6pm - 9pm
on Transpacific Sound Paradise with Rob Weisberg

M.A.K.U Sound System's cathartic sonic cocktail takes off from traditional Afro-Colombian rhythms and soars through the punk-psychedelic-electronic-jazz-Afrobeat stratosphere. With a great new new vinyl / digital EP M.N.D. just released, the 8-piece juggernaut returns to WFMU for another scintillating live session.

Jessica Pavone & Pure Horsehair
Monday, March 25th, 9pm - Midnight
on
Airborne Event with Dan Bodah
Airborne Event is glad to be able to share live sets from two great acts with you on March 25th. Jessica Pavone is a prolific avant garde composer. She put out the solo album "Hope Dawson Is Missing" last year on Tzadik Records, has an ongoing duo with guitarist Mary Halvorson, and plays with numerous ensembles. Jessica augments and extends her solo violin and viola playing with electronics to create complex art songs, with lyrics that get beyond conscious defenses to detonate at the border of dreamworld. Pure Horsehair is the moniker under which singer and guitarist Garrett Devoe plays his primitive rock and roll chamber music. He's played with folks like Laura Veirs, Jolie Holland, and Kimya Dawson. Tune in on March 25th prepared!

Interview with "Yacht Rock" mastermind JD Ryznar
Tuesday, March 26th, Midnight - 3am
on
Nat Roe
The cult-classic comedy "Yacht Rock" is the branchild of JD Ryznar, who wrote, directed and starred as Michael McDonald in the TV show. "Yacht Rock" made soft rockers like Kenny Loggins and Toto cool again for a generation of hipsters who longed to share common cultural references with their lame parents. Nat Roe has studied "Yacht Rock" obsessively and will pepper Ryznar with many burning questions. Callers are also welcome to chat with Ryznar as well. Ryznar continues to create TV for Channel101, and Nat strongly encourages anyone and everyone to watch "Yacht Rock" on Channel101.

The Above and Billy Gibbons
Tuesday, March 26th, Noon - 3pm
on
Three Chord Monte with Joe Belock
British R&B and freakbeat are starting points for these Brooklyn rock and rollers, who infuse those influences with a 21st-century edge and energy. The Above, who previously rocked the FMU airwaves on two triumphant appearances on The Cherry Blossom Clinc program, have a brand new 45 on the Boppa Do Down label out of Toronto. They will be playing Friday March 29 at Grand Victory in Brooklyn. Also, a rebroadcast of an interview with Billy Gibbons, legendary guitarist of ZZ Top who is reuniting his pre-fame band the Moving Sidewalks. The Texas psych legends are playing BB King's in NYC on March 30.

Jacco Gardner
Wednesday, March 27th, 9pm - Midnight
on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show

Jacco Gardner brings his version of baroque psych to WFMU as he wraps up his US tour with a stop in our Jersey City studios on his way to the airport. His 2012 release "Where Will You Go" was Evan's #1 single of 2012, and his new full-length album Cabinet Of Curiosities (Trouble In Mind) picks up where that left off: building on a '60s sensibility that will be pleasantly recognizable to fans of Curt Boettcher or Billy Nicholls as well as more recent acts like the Black Angels or Dungen. Catch him at the Mercury Lounge on Saturday March 23 (with TiM label-mates Mmoss), and tune in Wednesday the 27th at 9pm for the live set!

Vinnie Stigma (Agnostic Front, Stigma, Madball)
Thursday, March 28th, Noon - 3pm
on
Diane's Kamikaze Fun Machine
Sometimes known as the godfather of New York HardCore and also owner of NYHC Tattoos, Vinnie will talk about Stigma's new release, "For Love And Glory," as well as some NY stories. This is not a full Peer Pressure segment, but we will hear some Stigma related tunes as well as some of his stated favorites during the show!

Stacian and Gel Set
Monday, April 1st, 9am - Noon
on
Liz Berg's show
Ladies rule April Fool's Day on Liz's show! Milwaukee-based one-woman prodigy Stacian delivers dark, synth-y melodies perfect for your next robot dance party. Stacian's 2012 release "Songs for Cadets" (Moniker Records) made it to Liz's top picks for the year, so don't miss out! Also performing will be Gel Set from Chicago, with creepy beats and even more minimal synth action.

Thee Open Sex
Monday, April 1st, 9pm - Midnight
on
Airborne Event with Dan Bodah
Stop by to get your April thoroughly fooled by guests Thee Open Sex from Bloomington, Indiana. They're in the area for a show at Death By Audio, and their new record is fresh out on Magnetic South Recordings, which is run by one of the members with a pal from sister band Apache Dropout. After a string of deep drone worship cassettes, Thee Open Sex have discovered alchemical chants allowing them to embed bluesy garage rock into a cloudy matrix of cosmic sauerkraut and fuzz stacked deeper than Neil Young's lyrics. Lend us your ears and we will make you a believer.

Lenny Sblendorio
Thursday, April 4th, Noon - 3pm
on
Diane's Kamikaze Fun Machine
Lenny was operations manager of NJ's Buy Our Records, one of the earliest Hardcore record labels, a member of Bedlam, George Is Dead, Priapism, Hearse, and publisher of the zine "Friends of the Deceased." He currently drums with Devilhaus. Listeners will be able to ask Lenny questions via the live interactive playlist while he spins the tunes and talks smack about the old NJ Hardcore scene!

Pigeons
Monday, April 22nd, 9pm - Midnight
on Airborne Event with Dan Bodah

Pigeons have a past in the improvisational world and have gradually moved toward a unique sort of yeye-inflected psychedelic folk pop. Core duo Wednesday Knudsen and Clark Griffin used to play with the Seattle freak outfit the Sea Donkeys. They've since moved to the Bronx and will be joined by Jason Meagher (of No-Neck Blue Band) on bass and Rob Smith (of Rhyton) on drums. The latest Pigeons record, "They Sweetheartstammers," came out on Soft Abuse a little over a year ago. Tune in for a rare treat when Pigeons visit the WFMU Love Room for a live set on Airborne Event on April 22nd.

Seaven Teares
Monday, April 29th, 9pm - Midnight
on Airborne Event with Dan Bodah

Charlie Looker of Extra Life and Zs formed Seaven Teares as a side project a couple of years back. The name comes from a 400 year old John Dowland composition, which gives a hint of the direction the group takes on their just-released record "Power Ballads": pop music played on acoustic instruments, deeply infused with medieval chamber music but ultramodern in the end. The band also includes mezzo-soprano Amirtha Kidambi, multi-instrumentalist Robbie Lee, and percussionist Russell Greenberg. Dan is happy to welcome them to the WFMU airwaves on April 29th.

Mudhoney
Tuesday, May 14th, 3pm - 6pm
on Brian Turner's show

When WFMU broadcast Mudhoney live from ATP a few years ago, it was fully obvious that their instrumental power and Mark Arm's inimitable yowl were still very much in full force. Even more so at last year's Primavera broadcast (where they followed up after their set by bumrushing and taking over the WFMU fairway tent!). 25 years down the line Mudhoney still have the bottles and bodies flying, soaking up a past and continuing to deliver the one-two riffage even as bands they influenced have vanished and reunited at half mast. April sees Sub Pop and Mudhoney's respective anniversaries marked by a brand new full-length "Vanishing Point" (their ninth!) and a visit to Brian's show to rock faces off. They also play at the Music Hall of Williamsburg on Saturday, May 11th and Bowery Ballroom May 12th. Don't miss this sure-to-be-legendary session!

Moira Scar
Monday, May 27th, 9pm - Midnight
on Airborne Event with Dan Bodah

A trio of psychonauts from Oakland -- Roxy Monoxide, LuLu Gamma Ray, and Ryan Bonus Beast -- channel the cosmic entity Moira Scar to make a wild din of deeply weird ritual garage punk cabaret music. Their new record "Scarred for Life" is out on Resipiscent Records, and they'll make a stop at WFMU on May 27th to play live on the Airborne Event while they're touring in the East. Don't miss it!
