The return of Cleveland artpunk combo featuring John Morton (Electric
Eels), Andrew Klimek (Red Dark Sweet), Craig Bell (Rocket From the
Tombs, Mirrors, Gizmos) and Matthew Harris. Originally formed in 1978
with Morton, Klimek, Anton Fier (Feelies/Golden Palominos/Lounge
Lizards) and Jim Ellis, X_X were originally meant to last six months as
Morton was moving to NYC, but recently Ektro Records released the band's
output as an LP (with liners by Jon Savage), and lo and behold they are
back on stage.

Since 2006 the duo of Russ Waterhouse and Lea Cho have turned
traditional psychedelia upside-down on his head with lo-tech (guitar,
keyboards, FX, tapes) means to incorporate
a hazy but powerful common musical thread between Conrad Schnitzler's
jabbering electronic workouts, the gauze of Locust Abortion
Technician-era Butthole Surfers, and the more unicorn-saddling moments
of Jan Hammer. Or perhaps, they are driving off in the car piloted by

To help work our way through three hours of nothing but seven-inch
singles, Burn It Down! with Nate K welcomes Acute Records founder and
newly minted recording artist Dan Selzer to the program. Since launching
Acute in 2002, Dan has been rediscovering and reissuing various
underground, post-punk, D.I.Y., and experimental treasures, including
the Lines, Theoretical Girls, Ike Yard, the Trypes, and Happy Refugees,
among others. In 2014, Selzer released his first album of his own music,
under the name New York Endless, with Strategies, via the Golf Channel
imprint. We asked Dan to join us and he said he was easy, he was cheap,
and he would come and do it.

(Eastern) on Irwin's program. On Weds. October 29th we'll air "Three
Shingles," from Joe's SOMEWHERE OUT THERE series. At a Halloween costume
party, Joe meets a cynical young woman dressed as Jesus, but she denies
being in costume. They discuss her relationship with her Holy Father,
then set off by car for places unknown. While she tries to overcome his

Ultimate Painting

Ultimate Painting is a new band started by James Hoare of Veronica Falls
and Jack Cooper of Mazes. After their bands toured together the two
began exchanging demos and getting together for casual jam sessions.
That led to some dates opening for Parquet Courts followed by a single
release in August and a full-length album, due out at the end of the
month on the Trouble In Mind label. The songs have a quiet guitar-driven
feel reminiscent of the Velvet Underground or later-period Wire.
They're playing at Cake Shop on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 25; if you miss
that show you can catch them live on WFMU at 9pm on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Chrome special with Helios Creed

When guitarist Helios Creed met up with Damon Edge and joined the San
Francisco band Chrome in 1977, the world got an acid-fried, dystopian
sci-fi version of the Stooges that blasted out two records that no other
band has come near replicating the warped genius of. Alien Soundtracks
and Half Machine Lip Moves utilized a Hendrix kind of freeform aesthetic
mixed with tapes, feedback, metal percussion and cutup soundscapes all
heightening the band's projections of a world of abusive technology and
zombie warfare. They later became probably the most unheralded
cornerstone of 80's industrial music, and in the new millenium, scores
of garage punks have scrapped traditional approaches and followed Helios
Creed's moves more than ever. With Damon having passed away in 2005,
Creed (who has had a long solo career since 1985) now rechristens Chrome
and has released the new album Feel It Like A Scientist. Brian talks at
length today with Helios and gets the lowdown on the past and present
of this incredible and unique psychedelic punk band.

The Briefs blasted out of Seattle in the early 2000s, releasing album
after album of some of the most authentic-sounding modern punk rock you
ever heard. The band won fans around the world with their take on '77
punk rock that evoked memories of the Undertones, Buzzcocks, Dead Boys
and the like. After a lengthy hiatus they've been lured back out on the
road by none other than The Damned for an east coast tour that will
include a triumphant return to the WFMU studios! Their local dates
include Irving Plaza on Halloween and the Stone Pony in Asbury Park on
Saturday, Nov. 1. Get out and see them live, then tune in for more punk
rock joy Wednesday night, Nov. 5, on WFMU.
Taylor Swift White Noise Remix Context

on Miniature Minotaurs with Kurt Gottschalk
On Oct. 21, an apparent glitch at the Canadian iTunes Headquarters
resulted in an eight-second file of white noise and silence being made
available on for download as "Track 3" from Taylor Swift's upcoming
album "1989." The little blurt of an mp3 quickly topped the Canadian
iTunes sales charts.
Whether or not Ms. Swift is venturing into the world of sound art or
digital culture jamming remains to be seen but that's not stopping us
from announcing the TAYLOR SWIFT WHITE NOISE REMIX CONTEST. Download the

(Reverse Information Day). A panel of listeners who donated to Miniature
Minotaurs during the October Silent Fundraiser will judge the entries

November 7 (3-6 pm).

After a long collaborative past, harpist Mary Lattimore and
multi-instrumentalist Jeff Zeigler have just released "Slant of Light," a
beautifully impressionistic set of improvisations. Lattimore’s
elaborate melodies are meditatively enhanced by a lush compliment of
Zeigler’s tonal beds of synthesizer and guitar. Mary Lattimore and Jeff
Ziegler visit Irene's show for a live performance on WFMU.
