UPCOMING SPECIALS ON WFMU:

Spider Bags
Saturday, June 13th, 3pm - 6pm
on
Todd-o-phonic Todd's show
Merge Recording stars Spider Bags kick out the jams live on Todd-O-Phonic Todd's show 6/13. This stellar 3 piece combo features 3 Jersey high school pals including former D.C. Snipers member Dan McGee. Their high energy brand of unruly rock'n'roll is wonderfully displayed on their most recent album, Frozen Letter, and will be just the thing for a Saturday afternoon. Be sure and catch them opening for Ex Hex at Music Hall of Williamsburg on 6/12 and appearing with local heroes The Ribeye Brothers (performing with The Detroit Cobras @ Monty Hall on 7/17) at The Anchor's Bend in Asbury Park on 6/13.

Live from Monty Hall, taped on May 30th, presented with video tonight
Saturday, June 13th, 9pm - Midnight
on
Prove It All Night! with Pat Byrne (on WFMU stream & FM radio & Video)

The Kurt Baker Band
Monday, June 15th, Noon - 3pm
on
Three Chord Monte with Joe Belock
Kurt Baker is a singer, songwriter and rock n’ roll performer from Portland, Maine who has always gone by the famous saying “Have a Good Time All the Time”. Now residing in Spain, Kurt and band stop by WFMU during a rare (these days) New York appearance.

Brian Wilson Birthday Bash
Wednesday, June 17th, 3pm - 6pm
on
Irwin Chusid
Brian Wilson turns 73 on June 20. That's as good an excuse as any to spend two hours playing and analyzing his music. On June 17th, Irwin invites Beach Boys historian (and occasional drummer) Dennis Diken down for an afternoon of deep cuts, session tracks, outtakes, rarities, and sonic artifacts that demonstrate why Brian Wilson is a musical science project.

Cold Beat
Wednesday, June 17th, 9pm - Midnight
on
The Evan "Funk" Davies Show
San Francisco's Cold Beat was started by Hannah Lew as an outlet for songs she'd been working on while playing in Grass Widow, but "didn't feel like Grass Widow songs." With that band on unannounced and indefinite hiatus, Lew completed those songs and continued writing on her own, releasing an EP in 2013 and the full-length album Over Me (Crime On The Moon) last year with a band that also includes former Erase Errata drummer Bianca Sparta. Reviewers struggled to put the album's sound in a familiar box, describing it variously as "surf-rock," "post-punk," "punkish," "poppy" and (gasp) "new wave." You can decide for yourself when Cold Beat play live on The Evan "Funk" Davies show Wednesday, June 17, at 9pm.

Child Abuse
Friday, June 19th, Midnight - 3am
on
Nick Name's show
On Nick Name's first ever session , Child Abuse drop by the WFMU studio's to record songs from their latest LP 'Trouble In Paradise.' Bassist/vocalist Tim Dahl (Lydia Lunch Retrovirus), drummer Oran Canfield, and Keyboardist Eric Lau showcase their unique sound, which has been described as 'somewhere in between noise, metal, and avant-jazz. Experimental Cassette Culture with guest Ryan Martin of Dais Records
Tuesday, June 23rd, 3pm - 6pm
on
Brian Turner's show
Ryan Martin of Dais Records and Robert & Leopold Tapes returns once again to Brian's show to share a treasure trove of experimental cassettes from the 1980's thru present, once again with live accuplaylist tape artwork as it rolls.

Kurt is in for Destination:OUT with an Ornette Coleman tribute special
Wednesday, June 24th, 9am - Noon
on
Miniature Minotaurs with Kurt Gottschalk (on Give the Drummer Radio stream)
Miniature Minotaurs returns to the webways as Kurt Gottschalk sits in for the vacationing Destination: Out with a three-hour tribute to the late Ornette Coleman. One of the primary architects of American music in the 20th Century, Coleman died June 11 at the age of 85. Tune in from nine to noon for an immersion into his harmolodic mastery.

Joe Frank - "The Dictator, Part 1"
Wednesday, June 24th, 3pm - 6pm
on
Irwin Chusid
One-hour dramas by Joe Frank air alternate Wednesdays at 4pm (Eastern) on Irwin's program. The episode "The Dictator, Part 1," from Joe's Work in Progress series, airs Weds. June 24th. Having cheated death after a devastating drought and a brutal invasion by cannibals, Joe becomes autocratic ruler of a tribe. He weaves stories about an unfortunate seller of precious oil and about the Dirt Boy who sprouted his own vegetables and became a self-sufficient ecosystem.

Thee Tsunamis Play Live
Saturday, July 11th, 3pm - 6pm
on
Todd-o-phonic Todd's show
Todd-O-Phonic Todd welcomes the darlings of Bloomington, Indiana...Thee Tsunamis! Saturday Night Sweetheart, their new album on Magnetic South, marries the New York Dolls’ gutter-glam attitude with the sound of Brill Building teen-sploitation, to a much bloodier effect. From heart-in-a-blender tales and drag-race party anthems to the title track’s proto-punk pyrotechnics, these 12 tunes are as catchy as they are cutting and together they tell a story as old as time: what the men don’t know, the little girls understand.

Be sure to see them live later that evening at Elvis Guesthouse!
