Zedashe - Captivating Choral Songs from the Republic of Georgia
Saturday, October 3rd, 6pm - 9pm
on Transpacific Sound Paradise with Rob Weisberg

Zedashe sings captivating polyphonic choral songs of the Caucasus region of Georgia - music dating from pre-Christian times that was almost lost during the Soviet era. They'll pull out the bagpipes, accordion and more for a dance tune here or there too.

Zedashe's US tour - in support of their superb new album Our Earth and Water - includes New York stops at Drom in the East Village on Thursday October 1st and at Barbes in Park Slope Saturday October 3rd. But their only Garden State appearance is on our airwaves!

Join Tony for three hours of choice Canterbury music, ranging from Soft Machine, Caravan, and Gong to their lesser-known brethren and non-English acolytes.

Throaat
Wednesday, October 7th, Midnight - 3am
on Wm. Berger presents My Castle of Quiet

Throaat—this nasty-as-back-alley-sex Brooklyn band combine punk and thrash-fed black metal with speed-metal chops, and a tainted dose of Satan-knows-what barely controlled chaos. Their latest EP, "Bloodf***ing Freaks" (MHOTR recs.), is a six-song ass-kick, a ferocious calling card that led to these gloriously bent metalers gracing My Castle of Quiet with a live set on our October 6-7 show.

Arwen Lewis
Wednesday, October 7th, 3pm - 6pm
on Irwin Chusid

Arwen Lewis is the daughter of Moby Grape founder and guitarist Peter Lewis. On Arwen's new self-titled debut album, she covers a dozen Grape classics from the band's first three records. On Oct 7 at 4pm, Arwen joins Irwin on WFMU for a live quartet performance, with her dad playing in the band. She has an album release party scheduled at the Bitter End in New York on October 11.

on

Saturday, October 10th, 3pm - 6pm
on
Todd-o-phonic Todd
Punk icon and author Richard Hell joins Todd-O-Phonic Todd to discuss his new non-fiction anthology Massive Pissed Love (published by Soft Skull Press). This collection contains many insightful pieces on music, film, poetry, New York City and more. Hell gained infamy as a member of Television and The Heartbreakers and as the leader of The Voidoids, but in more recent years has honed his craft as a writer and critic, as anyone who read his excellent autobiography I Dreamed I Was A Very Clean Tramp will attest.

Lame Drivers
Sunday, October 11th, 6am - 9am
on
Burn It Down! with Nate K
Brooklyn-via-Jersey trio Lame Drivers (featuring WFMU mainstay Jason Sigal) pull power pop out of the seventies, throw in a little of the wiry energy of eighties college rock, and replace the "slack" of nineties indie with an urgency and passion much needed in this insane new millennium. Boasting big hooks, a high instrumental aptitude, and a kitchen sink aesthetic philosophy, Lame Drivers dropped by BURN IT DOWN! to play songs off their new LP Chosen Era, due out October 9 on Bleeding Gold/Jigsaw records.

Chuck Prophet
Monday, October 12th, Noon - 3pm
on Three Chord Monte with Joe Belock

Chuck Prophet hit the road straight out of high school in the '80s with the psychedelic roots band Green on Red, and he never looked back. In addition to working as a singer/songwriter, guitarist, bandleader, and collaborator with artists as diverse as Kim Carnes, Solomon Burke, and Alejandro Escovedo, Prophet's deepening solo catalog of self-produced "sideways" roots rock has steadily become his calling card. Chuck returns to WFMU on the heels of last year's acclaimed "Night Surfer" LP.

Deaf Wish
Tuesday, October 13th, 3pm - 6pm
on Brian Turner's show

Despite being around for 8 years, Australia's excellent Deaf Wish have yet to become household names, though their latest release Pain has landed them on Sub Pop, which might change matters (stateside anyway). A democratic unit, Deaf Wish's songs vary in approach with no distinct trait to sum them up; they can alternate between evocative soundscapes to blizzards of guitar destruction with total seamlessness, melodies murdered and revived. Tune in to hear this great band live today on Brian's show.

TIGUE
Thursday, October 15th, 6am - 9am
on
The Long Rally with Scott McDowell
The percussion trio TIGUE (pronounced just like the 2nd syllable of fatigue) drops by to perform their dazzling compositions, combining post-rock architecture and slow-building melodies with the compositional language of early minimalism. Their debut album Peaks will be out in November on New Amsterdam Records and features contributions from Kid Millions and Yo La Tengo's Ira Kaplan and James McNew.

Dennis Dunaway
Thursday, October 15th, Noon - 3pm
on
Diane's Kamikaze Fun Machine
Original bassist of the Alice Cooper Group, and member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Dennis released his memoirs in a book titled, "Snakes! Guillotines! Electric Chairs!" this summer. Credited with writing some of rock's most famous songs; i.e. " I'm Eighteen" and "School's Out", and also a current member of Blue Coupe with the Bouchard Brothers, Dennis will be appearing locally at the Chiller Theatre Expo in Parsippany NJ, October 23-25th! Listeners will be able to ask him questions via the live playlist, so get your thinking caps on!

Thursday, October 15th, 9pm - Midnight
on

But tune in on the 19th for the 45rpm madness!

Spray Paint
Tuesday, October 20th, 3pm - 6pm
on Brian Turner's show

This Austin trio (and former stars of WFMU's SXSW show in 2014) has already issued a slew of singles and LPs in their relatively short run, never short on ideas. Taking classic postpunk traits of the likes of The Urinals, The Fall, 1983-era Butthole Surfers and other paranoia-inducing art rockers, Spray Paint mesh equal parts economy and mastery of the sideways hook, and they promise to make a nice din over your afternoon today with Brian.

He'll bring his regular trio plus guests down to WFMU to play from his NYC songbook and celebrate the re-release of Chroma Colossus.

Carter Thornton plus Tom Carter / Steve Gunn duo
Thursday, November 26th, 6am - 9am
on
Airborne Event
Start Thanksgiving the WFMU way. Carter Thornton (GNAW, Zashiki-Warashi, Pigeons, Enos Slaughter) brings a solo guitar set to WFMU. He's a relentless & restless innovator whose releases span the gamut from abstract classical guitar, experimental metal, field recordings, and destroyed songs. His new series of releases, Mapping the Ghost, begins this fall on Soft Abuse records.

Afterwards, guitar comrades Tom Carter & Steve Gunn will play in a duo. Tom Carter is a prolific musician who founded Charalambides in 1991 with Christina Carter. He's recently been focused on his bands with No Neck Blues Band co-founder Pat Murano as well as solo performances in collaboration with filmmakers. Tom's electric guitar work weaves melody into towering long-form drones, sculpting high-volume grit and charged silence together. His new LP is Long Time Underground (on Three Lobed).

Steve Gunn has numerous lauded solo, duo, and ensemble recordings. You can usually find him playing with his band, but he also finds time to serve as guitarist in Kurt Vile’s Violators or play duos like this with old friends. His playing shows the influence of Delta and Piedmont country blues, ecstatic jazz, and Gnawa and Carnatic music. His most recent record is the acclaimed Way Out Weather (on Paradise of Bachelors).
