UPCOMING SPECIALS AT WFMU:

Daddy Long Legs
Saturday, February 6th, 3pm - 6pm
on
Todd-o-phonic Todd's show
The most blues-wailing Daddy Long Legs join Todd-O-Phonic Todd to destroy Saturday afternoon. Find out why these Norton recording artists are the toasts of both Europe and Bushwick! The closest thing we will ever see to a cross between Slim Harpo and Harpo Marx.

Akoko Nante Ensemble - Drums of West Africa in NYC
Saturday, February 6th, 6pm - 9pm
on Transpacific Sound Paradise with Rob Weisberg

Percussion juggernaut Akoko Nante Ensemble bases its powerful music on folk traditions of Ghana. But their dynamic sound also reflects the angst and energy of growing up in Queens, New York. After bringing their percussive onslaught to WFMU, Akoko Nante celebrates the release of debut CD Nkrabea / Destiny with two shows in Harlem: At The Shrine later tonight (Saturday February 6th); and at Silvana on Saturday February 27th.

Girls On Grass
Monday, February 8th, Noon - 3pm
on Three Chord Monte with Joe Belock

Roots-cowpunk-country outta New York City. Girls on Grass was formed by singer-guitarist Barbara Endes (ex-Elk City, the Lovelies) and drummer Nancy Polstein (the Silos, Cheri Knight). The Girls woodshedded throughout 2014, recruiting bassist Dave Mandl (of WFMU's Hoof and Mouth Sinfonia) and lead guitarist Sean (Luna, Elk City) before heading into the studio to capture the initial burst of songwriting. The result is an amazing self-titled debut album. Find out what all the fuss is about with what is sure to be an incendiary live session!

Andorkappen
Wednesday, February 10th, Midnight - 3am
on Wm. Berger presents My Castle of Quiet

My Castle of Quiet celebrates its 300th broadcast, with special live guest Andorkappen. Currently strafing the US with graveyard ambience & funereal filth, a talented artist of many masks, staring you down hard from 1,000 vantage points atop 1,000 noisy pies—vocalist / percussionist in KILT, Lord Time in Harassor, Lord Time in Lord Time, and guru of Universal Consciousness Records. A mad hatter of many hats, it all comes together under the flag of Andorkappen—a project that nicely stews the many voices of Sandor Finta, and a real-time sound-smashing to help us crack the champagne on Castle show #300.

Joe Frank - "Love Is"
Wednesday, February 10th, 3pm - 6pm
on
Irwin Chusid
One-hour dramas by Joe Frank air alternate Wednesdays at 4pm (Eastern) on Irwin's program. An episode entitled "Love Is," from Joe's The Other Side series, airs Weds. February 3rd. At an airport, a man has a strange encounter with an old woman who insults him, then passes out and dies in front of him. He sees his wife waiting in an arrival lounge to meet another man. Told that he has terminal cancer, he’s offered a highly unorthodox, experimental treatment that involves meeting a surgeon dressed as Santa Claus. Viewing a photograph that reveals his contempt for his son, he feels he deserves nothing less than death. Then things take a turn for the worse.

Will Oldham
Thursday, February 11th, 9am - Noon
on Imaginary Radio with Chris M.

Music legend the Bonnie "Prince" Billy stops by to perform some songs and to talk at length about a great variety of projects and points of interest. His new Peel Sessions album is called Pond Scum and is out now on Drag City. Check out this Imaginary Radio Session as well!

Andrew Horn, director of "We Are Twisted F** king Sister!"
Wednesday, February 17th, 9pm - Midnight
on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show

Before they took the rock world by storm in 1984, before MTV even existed, Twisted Sister spent nearly 10 years playing six nights a week at rock clubs across the tri-state area and beyond. Director Andrew Horn (who also directed the critically acclaimed Klaus Nomi documentary The Nomi Song) focuses on this early part of the band's career in his new documentary We Are Twisted F**king Sister!. Andrew will join Evan "Funk" Davies in the WFMU studios Wednesday night Feb 17 at 9pm to talk about the film and play some music from this era of the band and from some of their NYC contemporaries.

The documentary has its New York City premiere at Cinema Village on Friday Feb 19, and there will be a Q & A session at the screening with Andrew and Twisted Sister guitarist Jay Jay French. Tune in to WFMU at 9pm on Wednesday the 17th for a fascinating look at a band you've probably heard but might not know.

Comedian Jim Breuer
Thursday, February 18th, Noon - 3pm
on
Diane's Kamikaze Fun Machine
Jim Breuer has a long resume of comedy behind him, but he has a unique way of bonding humor with metal. Diane is sure his playlist will be old school and may or may not feature Goat Boy, his character that was popular during his 3 seasons on SNL. Currently he has a podcast called "the Metal In Me" and has a new band called Jim Breuer and the Regulators that have recently been signed to Metal Blade Records. He'll be live, and will be fielding questions from listeners as well!

Lesely Gore Tribute
Friday, February 19th, 3pm - 6pm
on
Sophisticated Boom Boom with Sheila B.
On Friday February 19th, Sophisticated Boom Boom will pay tribute to the late Lesley Gore, America's strawberry-blonde icon who gave rise to an unforgettable feminist anthem and countless pop classics. Sheila B. will be airing an interview with Ms. Gore from October 2013, and journeying through her extensive 60s catalogue.

Freakwater
Monday, February 22nd, Noon - 3pm
on Three Chord Monte with Joe Belock

Freakwater's Janet Bean and Catherine Irwin first put their distinctive harmonies to tape under a swinging Kentucky country ham in Janet's parent's basement in 1985. Over three decades and eight infrequently released albums, Catherine and Janet's unflinching lyrics and compelling vocal harmonies can stab you in the heart from a mile away. Freakwater continues its tradition of defying classifications on the new album, Scheherazade, coming February 5th.

Saturday, February 27th, 3pm - 6pm
