Michael welcomes back to the show Emitt Rhodes, whose "Rainbow Ends" (his first full-length release in over 40 years) comes out this week. Emitt started making great music while still a teen first as the drummer of The Palace Guard, then as the front man of The Merry Go Round, then after three solo albums in 18 months he was burned out at age 23. Although he surfaced occasionally his life was a series of battles (legal, mental, physical) and throughout his fallow period his influence steadily grew as new generations discover his music, unfortunately, his troubles grew as well. His new record brings a new chapter to the story - as Emitt collaborates with an all-star line up of backing musicians and reflects on his journey in his new songs.

Bukharian music - music of Jews from predominately Muslim countries of Central Asia - is a fascinating blend of Middle Eastern modal traditions with Jewish and Western influences. We'll learn all about it and hear lots of the music tonight with New School Prof, Ethnomusicologist, and musician Evan Rapport, author of Greeted with Smiles: Bukharian Jewish Music and Musicians in New York (Oxford University Press, 2014).

Pat's second live late night variety show of 2016 comes to Monty Hall this Saturday. With stand up comedy from Aparna Nancherla and Dan Chamberlain! A live music set from My Teenage Stride, special guest DJ Gaylord Fields! Plus, the usual cavalcade of surprise guests! Tygapaw

on Champ Sound with DJ Guy
DJ and Producer Tygapaw (pronounced Tig-ah-paw) visits the Champ Sound to mix live on the air and discuss Shottas, the monthly party which she help organize in Brooklyn. Tygapaw plays self-described "sultry club" music and strives to create uplifting and inclusive spaces for the queer Caribbean community in New York.
