UPCOMING SPECIALS ON WFMU
(www.wfmu.org/upcoming)

The Whips and Dave Aguilar
Saturday, February 3rd, 3pm - 6pm
on
Todd-o-phonic Todd's show
The Whips return to the Todd-O-Phonic Todd show to celebrate the release of their debut album, City Wide Special with a live performance. Don't miss such hits as "Hot Tone", "Rock'n'Roll Dance" and "Kissin' In The Bathroom". These guys are the hottest Philly export since Jerry Blavat. Catch them live later that evening at The Brooklyn Bazaar with Des Demonas and The Othermen.

Plus...Dave Aguilar, lead vocalist of the legendary San Jose garage band The Chocolate Watch Band talks to Todd-O-Phonic Todd about the Sunset Strip Riots, Mike Curb, how they chose their songs and much more. Many people discovered The Watch Band through the inclusion of "Let's Talk About Girls" on Lenny Kaye's original Nuggets collection and their stature has grown ever since. The group's new 45 will be receiving it's world premier on this show.

Klezmer Fiddle Luminary Alicia Svigals with pianist Uli Geissendoerfer
Saturday, February 3rd, 6pm - 9pm
on Transpacific Sound Paradise with Rob Weisberg

Alicia Svigals, co-founder of the Klezmatics, is one of the best klezmer fiddlers in the world. Alicia has had a lively and varied post-Klezmatics career - but her new album, Beregovski Suite, is her first in two decades. On the album, Alicia and pianist Ulli Geissendoerfer re-imagine songs Moshe Beregovski collected in Ukrainian-Jewish shtetls on the eve of World War II. Alicia and Uli have a big record release show Sunday night (February 4th) at 7 at Joe's Pub - and they stop by to chat and perform a few pieces from the album tonight on WFMU.

Scott Sugiuchi of Hidden Volume Records
Monday, February 5th, Noon - 3pm
on Three Chord Monte with Joe Belock

Scott, bass player extraordinaire for such rockin' garage combos as the Hate Bombs, the Stents and now the Hall Monitors, checks in to give us the latest lowdown on his Hidden Volume label and the festival he's putting on in Orlando, Florida, Field Trip South 2018, Feb. 16-17, two days of garage rock, psych, surf and trash rock for your ears and eyes featuring the most insane (or mildly agitated) acts around. We'll also be premiering exclusive tracks from The Bell Towers and the Improbables that will be on a special flexidisc given away at the festival!

Mark E. Smith memorial
Tuesday, February 6th, 3pm - 6pm
on
Brian Turner's show
Brian revisits more of his cache of stellar live recordings of The Fall in honor of the passing of Mark Edward Smith. Three hours of material mostly unaired back on the program's dual April 2015 specials, including an exhumed interview Mark did on WFMU back in 1981. This time there will be no special guests from past Fall lineups, just a solid block of live soundboard and radio recordings of the band.

Heather Christian (Lemon)
Tuesday, February 6th, 7pm - 8pm
on
Morricone Island with Devon E. Levins
Heather Christian joins Devon in the studio to discuss her first feature length film score released on Node Records for director Janicza Bravo's "Lemon," starring Brett Gelman, Judy Greer, Michael Cera, Jon Daly, Martin Starr, Rhea Perlman and Megan Mullally. A longtime collaborator with Bravo, Heather is an Obie Award winning composer/performer and recent Sundance Fellow. Her short film scores include "Gregory Go Boom" which took a 2014 Sundance Grand Jury Prize. Heather also fronts Heather Christian & the Arbornauts.

This Is The Modern World with Trouble
Thursday, February 8th, 9am - Noon
David Goodwin, author of Left Bank of the Hudson Jersey City and the artists of 111 1st street visits This is the Modern World with Trouble on February 8 to talk about his new book. Goodwin will discuss the legendary 111 art studio community, sacrificed in a landlord's bid to take advantage of the expanding NJ gold coast. Goodwin's tale is a story that will sound familiar to artists in many US cities, while simultaneously revealing the home spun attitudes of New Jersey politics, and how their age old eccentricities are suffocating NJ today.

Nadine
Friday, February 9th, 3pm - 6pm
on Sophisticated Boom Boom with Sheila B.

Sheila B. fell hard for Minneapolis-New York trio Nadine’s brand of jazzy n’ playful lo-fi pop and has been regularly spinning the group’s singles “Ultra Pink,” “Not My Kinda Movie” and “Pews” on Sophisticated Boom Boom. Lead singer Nadia Hulett boasts a warm, cheerful voice and has a knack for writing snappy yet thoughtful lyrics addressing disconnection, confidence, and the shedding of old skin. Nadine will be celebrating the release of their debut album, Oh My on Father / Daughter Records with a live set and Q&A.

John Schnall’s Midnight Matinee: Crazy Stupid Guv
Saturday, February 10th, Midnight - 3am
on Inflatable Squirrel Carcass with Rich Hazelton

Midnight Matinee presents a rom-com about everyone's favorite New Jersey Governor Chris Christie: Crazy, Stupid Guv. Watch as he misappropriates money, closes a bridge for spite, cancels a popular transit project, and maybe, just maybe, wins your heart. On WFMU, streaming on your internet, and then archived for future generations.

Frank Allen of The Searchers
Saturday, February 10th, 11am - 1pm
on Michael Shelley's show

Michael welcomes Frank Allen of The Searchers back to program to talk about the new reissue of the band's late 70's/early 80's work for the Sire Records label which saw the 60's hit-makers sounding more contemporary & selecting covers from some unexpected sources.

Otis Fodder (The Bran Flakes/365 Days Project)
Wednesday, February 14th, 3pm - 6pm
on
Irwin Chusid
Otis Fodder (of the Bran Flakes and curator of the 365 Days Project) visits Irwin's show this Valentine's Day for a 3-hour musical voyage of screaming tropical birds, power-packed action hitters, long-distance love dedications, drugged-out hippie masterpieces, prog chants for dragon-fighting queens, your grand-folks singing pop songs, and a cross-section of the animal kingdom. The Bran Flakes recently released their 8th album, titled HELP ME. They will not be performing in your town anytime soon.

Tropical Trash
Sunday, February 18th, 6am - 9am
on
Burn It Down! with Nate K.
Hailing from Louisville, Kentucky, Tropical Trash are the raw, nasty, yet (make no mistake) all-around swell punk-rock alter egos of former Burn It Down! guests State Champion. If the former band embody a mellow Saturday afternoon spent with a six pack, Tropical Trash represent the weirdness that happens when day devolves into night. Providing the perfect soundtrack for destroying a dear friend's living room.

Korean female folk-rock n’ pop from the 60s + 70s with guest curator Greg Satz
Friday, February 23rd, 3pm - 6pm
on
Sophisticated Boom Boom with Sheila B.
Avid record collector Greg Satz swapped Western living for Seoul, South Korea, where he spends all his free time digging for Korean pop LPs. We’ll be playing a mix of Korean female folk-rock n’ pop from the 60s + 70s (and a dash of 80s!) that Greg Satz made exclusively for Sophisticated Boom Boom, and chatting with him about how he developed his Korean vinyl habit and why so many of the original records were destroyed under the political regime of the 70s.

Famous Logs in History
Sunday, March 4th, 6am - 9am
on
Burn It Down! with Nate K.
With two members of the late great art punks Imaginary Icons and a former siren for the hi-lonesome outfit Small Potatoes, Brooklyn newbies Famous Logs in History bring just the sort of varied pedigree to the table we embrace around here at WFMU. The Logs, specifically, are steeped in the finest moments of assorted DIY underground movements, with maybe a touch of street punk 'tude thrown in for good measure. Their kitchen-sink approach to it all is instantly familiar while standing quite firmly on its own two feet. Catch them on the way up and then go see them at Hank's Saloon, Saturday, March 10.
