Check out some of our new favorite releases, as well as upcoming events on our airwaves and at our performance space Monty Hall. Upcoming Specials on WFMU
Somewhere Out There: The Joe Frank film (with director DP Carlson)
Wednesday, February 20th, 3pm - 6pm
on Irwin Chusid

Joe Frank radio dramas aired on WFMU for many years. A new feature-length bio-pic, "Somewhere Out There," directed by DP Carlson, screens at the Anthology Film Archives in New York on Weds Feb. 20. That afternoon from 3–6pm (Eastern), Carlson visits WFMU to talk about Joe on Irwin's program. Classic clips from Joe's dramas will be featured.

Chris O'Leary, author of "Ashes To Ashes: The Songs of David Bowie, 1976-2016"
Wednesday, February 20th, 9pm - Midnight
on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show

Ashes To Ashes completes Chris O'Leary's survey of David Bowie's entire career, song by song. This new book follows Bowie's undulating career arc from Low all the way through to Blackstar. O'Leary returns to The Evan "Funk" Davies Show to talk about the book and play some of the songs it covers. A must for Bowie fans! He'll also be appearing at McNally Jackson Books in Manhattan on February 21.

A live performance from The Cactus Blossoms
Saturday, February 23rd, 11am - 1pm
on Michael Shelley's show

Michael welcomes back brothers Jack and Page of The Cactus Blossoms for a set of live music, hopefully including a few songs from their upcoming release "Easy Way," due out March 1st. You may remember their 2016 release "You're Dreaming" was Michael's album of the year.

Nick Waterhouse and Mike Krol
Saturday, February 23rd, 3pm - 6pm
on Todd-o-phonic Todd's show

On his new self-titled album for Innovative Leisure, Waterhouse combines the soulful strut of the great soul 45's he cherishes with the electricity of sixties garage rock. Meanwhile, Power Chords, Mike Krol's new Merge release, picks up where 2015’s Turkey left off. It traces Krol’s journey back to punk rock, harnessing both the guitar technique and the musical redemption referenced in its title. Catch these blistering live sets and don't miss Waterhouse May 14th at Music Hall Of Williamsburg and Krol at The Knitting Factory on March 5th.

47SOUL Brings Shamstep From Palestine to the World
Saturday, February 23rd, 6pm - 9pm
on Transpacific Sound Paradise with Rob Weisberg

London-based Palestinian band 47SOUL calls its music Shamstep. The Guardian calls it "a cheerfully wide-screen fusion of electronic hip-hop and traditional dabke dance music." Whatever you want to call it, it's great stuff. You can hear it on their album Balfron Promise (on Cooking Vinyl) - and live at Brooklyn's BRIC House on Thursday night March 7th. We'll hear all about it with guest El Far3i (pronounced el-f'ry-EE) of 47SOUL on this week's show!

Gladshot
Wednesday, February 27th, 9pm - Midnight
on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show

NYC garage-pop-psych outfit Gladshot returns to WFMU for a live set on The Evan "Funk" Davies Show! The band has a couple of albums under their belt, both produced by quality-band-knower John Agnello, and they cite AC/DC, Neil Diamond, and Cherry Glazerr as influences. Tune in on Wednesday February 27 to hear them live on WFMU, and go out and see them in person at Union Pool on Thursday the 28th!
