on Continental Subway with David Dichelle (on Give the Drummer Radio stream)
Berlin-based Michael Quattlebaum and Patrick Flanagan are bringing a unique sound to this year's Bach Festival in Leipzig. Quattlebaum studied classical voice in Los Angeles before moving on to Berlin and the singing saw. The duo will present excerpts from their concept show Bach's Fever Dream.
Nots
Tuesday, June 11th, 9pm - Midnight
on Burn It Down! with Nate K.
Back by popular demand, Memphis noise-punk stalwarts Nots return to Burn It Down! for their second live appearance on the show. This time the band is sporting a leaner, meaner three-piece line-up and will be playing tracks from their acclaimed new album "3" out now on Goner Records and Upset the Rhythm! They're also playing live at Alphaville, in Brooklyn, on June 8, with Olivia Neutron-John and Signal.
Radiovert Reads: A Series of Steaks
Wednesday, June 12th,7pm - 8pm
on Radiovert with Nicole
A deliciously meaty story by Hugo, Nebula, and Sturgeon Award finalist Vina Prasad.
I Meta-Fella
Saturday, June 15th, Midnight -3am
on Inflatable Squirrel Carcass with Rich Hazelton
Another exquisite corpse has been discovered in the field where The Inflatable Squirrel Carcass buries its acorns, and a crack squad of WFMU DJs have gathered to perform the autopsy. Tune in Saturday, June 15, at midnight as this congregation of Quincys assembles to dissect the liver at the center of one of life’s eternal questions: Can a Fourth Wall and a Brick Wall meet cute?
Mike Chapman
Saturday, June 15th,3pm - 6pm
on Todd-o-phonic Todd's show
Australian born Mike Chapman first rose to prominence in the early 70's in the U.K. when he and his partner Nicky Chinn wrote a string of hits for glam acts such as The Sweet, Mud and Suzi Quatro. Later in that decade, Chapman produced smash albums for the likes of Blondie and The Knack. Mike discuss his remarkable career and the ever evolving music biz with Todd-O-Phonic.
Senegalese Sensation Oumar Ndiaye Teams Up With Sideman to the Stars, Smokey Hormel
Saturday, June 15th,6pm - 9pm
on Transpacific Sound Paradise with Rob Weisberg
Senegalese guitarist / songwriter Oumar Ndiaye excels singing intimate ballads as well as mbalax dance floor workouts. He does it all on his new album Sutura, with a stellar band led by guitarist extraordinaire Smokey Hormel, sideman to the stars - from Beck to Neil Diamond. Hormel also leads Smokey's Round‑up and various cross-cultural combos. Oumar and Smokey join us in between two intimate gigs Friday and Saturday June 14th and 15th at the beautiful Issyra African Gallery in Hoboken.
Andy Human & the Reptoids
Tuesday, June 18th,9pm - Midnight
on Burn It Down! with Nate K.
Led by the Bay Area underground mainstay Andy Jordan, Andy Human and the Reptoids land in a very specific spot on the whole garage-punk/post-punk axis, hinting at everything from Chrome's sci-fi shenanigans to Crime's art damaged attitude to Roxy Music's hi-concept glitter, with plenty of good old rock 'n' roll swing, too. The band is playing some rare live dates on the East Coast and were kind enough to swing by Burn It Down for a live session.
die ANGEL (Ilpo Väisänen / Dirk Dresselhaus)
Friday, June 21st,9pm - Midnight
on Daniel Blumin's show
Ilpo Väisänen of the mighty Pan Sonic & Dirk Dresselhaus aka Schneider TM have been playing together since 1999 and released albums on toothsome labels such as Editions Mego. die ANGEL's first-ever session for WFMU promises a glorious mix of processed guitar and mutant electronics. Conjuring up electro-acoustic will-o'-the-wisps and phantom energies, die Angel will rumble and oscillate straight into your third eye. No better way to close the summer solstice!
