The Paranoid Style return to Evan's show in celebration of their latest album, Known Associates
(Bar/None). The band is fronted by Elizabeth Nelson Bracy, whose lyrics
are clever in the best sense of the word. Lead guitarist Peter Holsapple
(The dB's / Continental Drifters, etc.) adds some additional crunch to
the 7-piece lineup. They make a rare NYC appearance Saturday August 15
at Union Pool.
Prison

on The Frow Show with Jesse Jarnow
Prison, Rockaway's soot-covered cosmic truckers, return to WFMU for a
live session on The Frow Show, celebrating the release of their newest
album, Big Rigs on the BQE, on Drag City. They're on the road this month
in Davenport, Chicago, Columbus, and Rochester, and back at Rippers in
Rockaway Beach on Sunday, August 23rd.

Firas Zreik is a master player of the qanun, a type of large zither with
a thin trapezoidal soundboard that traces its roots back to nineteenth
century BC Mesopotamia. On his captivating new album Tarabesque, on the
Maqām Records label, he merges tarab - described as "the ecstatic,
immersive state of listening central to Arab musical traditions" - with
modern styles from around the world. You can see Firas Zreik and his
band at Roulette on October 2nd but first - tune in tonight as he joins
us to talk about the music and perform.
Speaker Music: DeForrest Brown Jr. Interview

In July Speaker Music, aka DeForrest Brown Jr, releases “Synoptic
Audio,” his fourth LP for record label Planet Mu. “Synoptic Audio” is
Brown’s final album as Speaker Music; it features his signature style of
theory based electronic free jazz drums and synthesized brass horn
lines. OoD and Brown discuss his youth in Birmingham, Alabama,
experimental electronic music production and the ending of his Speaker
Music project.
