Kasey Schmitt - "Kasey's Theme"
I love records made by high school students. And this one -- "Robert Louis Stevenson Record of the Year '77-'78" -- has some particularly good stuff on it: a bunch of original tunes and a few well-chosen covers ("Knock on Wood," "Day Tripper," and "Spain," by Chick Corea). Here's the cover photo:
Robert Louis Stevenson School is an independent, progressive, coeducational, college preparatory day school in Manhattan... The [school] helps bright, underachieving adolescents by providing a college preparatory educational program within a therapeutic milieu that provides the necessary academic, social and emotional help for them to succeed.
I don't see anything about cutting a record in the school's current curriculum, but apparently it was part of the plan back in '78. There are a bunch of pix on the inside of the gatefold sleeve of the album, showing the kids in a recording studio (uncredited), having a blast. Here's one pic, from the middle of the gatefold (hence the fold in the middle), that includes young Kasey Schmitt, who co-wrote this song, plays keyboards on the song (and most songs on the album), and sings lead here: (enlarge)
That's Kasey in the right foreground, with the long hair. (Kinda like Poco's Tim Schmitt. Hey, I wonder if they were related?)
